Window Refurbishment

Historic sash windows often rattle, let in draughts and can be hard to open and close, despite being in perfectly good condition with little or no decayed timber. To solve these problems we offer a sash window refurbishment and draught proofing service.

The windows are removed and sash cord replaced; if necessary we will replace the sash wheels, although it is often nice to keep the existing traditional wheels if they work. The window weights are checked and altered if necessary and the windows refitted with new draught proof parting and staff beads ensuring a draught free, smooth opening sash window. We can also fit new window furniture if required.

Whilst refurbishing and draughtproofing the window our highly skilled tradespeople can also repair or replace any damaged or decayed timbers we expose in the sash box, ensuring as much of the historic timber is retained and once decorated barely noticeable.

Glazing replacement

We work with glazing firm Fineo to restore old sash windows; where possible fitting new, heat-retaining glazing into the existing sashes without changing the frames, or when this is not possible, making new identical sashes with Fineo glass. Click here for more information.
